Vida:
Kia ora! I'm Vida and I'm Mum to Zoe (born in Wellington) and Phoebe (born in the Hutt). I've been passionate about women and their whānau being informed about all their options in pregnancy, labour, birth and parenting for many years, and I currently work as a Calmbirth Educator and with a local antenatal education organisation. It has been a privilege to see maternity from the other side in my role as a consumer rep for maternity at the Hutt DHB. Everyone is working together for a happy and healthy outcome for Mum and baby, but it is interesting to see the different philosophies and approaches at work. I am committed to improving the support for Mums and their whānau, and making the links between the DHB and the community strong.
Megan:
My name is Megan and I’m honoured to have the chance to represent the consumers of Hutt Maternity. I’m married to Matt, and am Mama to Kamden, Luca and Wylie. I was pregnant with and birthed Luca and Wylie in Lower Hutt (in 2010 and 2015). Since moving to Lower Hutt in 2010, I’ve got involved in my community through Playcentre, our local school and becoming a Breastfeeding Peer Supporter.
I’m passionate about supporting women and whānau during pregnancy and beyond. All women/whānau deserve to have their needs met during their maternity care. I see my role as a consumer as being a voice for our wonderful and diverse community, and to help in advocating for those that don’t feel their voice is being heard. There is so much to be gained in Mamas supporting each other, and I believe this role creates a chance for greater understanding between our local maternity health services, and the needs of those accessing their services.
Clare:
Hi there! My name is Clare and I am blessed to have three wonderful children all born at Hutt Hospital – Sophie in 2009, Liam in 2011 and Felicity in 2014. The years have utterly flown by but I still cherish my pregnancy journeys, the first days with my babies and the care I received through my incredible midwives and the staff at Hutt Hospital. Pregnancy and early days for mother, baby and whanau are so important - it is vital that they are surrounded by whatever support is right for them. I feel strongly that all mums deserve the absolute best and to feel empowered, capable, in control and safe throughout their journey. I am acutely aware that my stories have been very positive and I have a soft spot in my heart for mums who experience difficulties and loss. I feel privileged to work alongside Megan and Vida who are both absolutely incredible and to have the opportunity to do something towards ensuring mothers’ voices are heard and their experiences are everything they deserve.
